Since the world is on an emergency lock down right now and people have literally almost nothing to do, I thought I'd give people a quick list of good movies to watch from my DVD/VHS collection.

DISCLAIMER: These are in no particular ranking order. They're all S-tier.

Also, I take most of the synopses off of the back of the case/cover.

1. From Up On Poppy Hill (2011)

This is another Ghibli classic and belongs along the other legendary films by said studio like My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away. The film is set in post WWII Japan when the country is preparing to hold the Olympics. As Japan changes and moves forward, a friendship blossoms between two high school students, Umi and Shun. However a secret from their past emerges to cast a shadow on their future and tear them apart.

Great drama, beautiful animation, wonderful soundtrack. It's a true classic.

2. Clue (1985)

An extremely serious and dramatic thriller starring Tom Cruise where he has to solve clues to find his stolen family in a lock down, tsunami-earthquake.

Just kidding!

Clue is a movie adaptation of the popular board game that goes by the same name, it seems weird/bad but it's actually a great film. It's the perfect blend of light and dark humour. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over and over again without getting tired of it. I genuinely think I've watched it over 100 times. It also has a stellar cast starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd and Lesley Ann Warren (just to name a few).

If you're looking for a lighthearted fun/dark comedy check this one out!

3. Senseless (1998)

If I'm being honest, this movie isn't very good. But my god, it's almost so bad it's good.

The movie stars Marlon Wayans and David Spade in a classic 90s try-hard college film about doing anything to get ahead. Wayans plays Darryl, a poor man who's just trying to succeed in college and support his poor family who's losing his wall street job to a wealthy snob (Spade) until Darryl volunteers for a high paying scientific experiment that gives him superhuman senses. Also Matthew Lillard (aka Stu from Scream/Shaggy from Scooby Doo) is in this movie.

If you're looking for a cheesy 90s comedy that has some jokes not appropriate for 2020 go watch Senseless.

4. Some Like It Hot (1959)

If you're into classic films this is one for you. After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band's sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire (Joe E. Brown) as things heat up and the mobsters close in.

I went through a Marilyn Monroe phase in grade 5 and this was one of my favorite films she was in.

5. The Muppets (2012)

Honestly I recommend any Muppet film for you to watch. The Muppets have such a charm and a very versatile humour that makes their films enjoyable for any age. However this the 2012 installment is a great place to start.

While on vacation in Los Angeles, the world's biggest Muppet fan Walter finds a secret plot by an evil oil baron to destroy the old Muppet studios. With the help of his brother Gary and Gary's girlfriend Mary they reunite the Muppets to perform one more show to win the studio back.

This movie is so heartwarming, funny, and has the Oscar winning song Man or Muppet. Please watch this movie.

6. Can't Buy Me Love (1987)

If you like John Hughes movies you'll like this one.

Ronny Miller (Patrick Dempsey) is a total nobody nerd who is secretly in love with the most popular girl in school Cindy Mancini (Amanda Peterson). When Cindy finds herself in a desperate predicament, Ronny steps in to save the day...but at a price. Cindy must pretend to be Ronny's girlfriend for a month so he can experience the 'popular life'. Ronny has to discover that money can buy him popularity but it can't buy him love!

This is such an underrated 80s classic that everyone should see.

7. The Addams Family Values (1993)

The members of the odd Addams Family are up to more macabre antics in this sequel. This time around, Gomez Addams (Raul Julia) and his wife, Morticia (Anjelica Huston), are celebrating the arrival of a baby boy. But siblings Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) are none too happy about the new addition, and try their best to eliminate the infant. When nanny Debbie Jelinsky (Joan Cusack) appears to keep the kids in line, her presence leads to an unexpected treacherous twist.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. The jokes are perfect and the setting of summer camp, for the kids at least, is perfect. Also Debbie is the best character in cinema. 10/10 recommend.

8. Cruel Intentions (1998)

Annette (Reese Witherspoon) unwittingly becomes a pawn in Sebastian's (Ryan Phillippe) and Kathryn's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) deliciously diabolical wager of sexual conquest when she writes an article in Seventeen Magazine about how she intends to stay pure until she marries her boyfriend. However, Sebastian gets more than he bargained for as he attempts to woo Annette into his bed.

The aesthetic of this movie is ev-er-y-th-ingggg! The queen Sarah Michelle Gellar is the ultimate rich and sexy sociopath, Ryan Phillippe is the original poetically tortured bad boy, and Reese Witherspoon is so pure. The one thing you have to get past is the weird sexual step sibling relationship Sebastian and Kathryn have.

9. The Craft (1996)

An easy cult classic The Craft follows Sarah, the new girl at St.Benedict's Academy. She immediately falls into the outsider crowd but these girls won't settle being powerless misfits. They have discovered the craft, and they are going to use it.

To quote Matthew Gilbert from the Boston Globe, "It's Carrie meets Clueless". This is such a good movie to go into blind. There are twists and turns and you really can't predict what happens in the end.

10. Robots (2005)

In a world of sentient robots, striving young inventor Rodney Copperbottom (Ewan McGregor) wants to work for the avuncular Bigweld (Mel Brooks), whose Bigweld Industries makes spare robot parts. But Bigweld has just been deposed as company head by the villainous Phineas T. Ratchet (Greg Kinnear), who wants to make all robots submit to profitable forced upgrades. In this animated adventure, Rodney and his friend Fender (Robin Williams) go underground to fight Ratchet's evil plans.

I recently watched this movie again and it is one of the funniest animated films I've seen. If you haven't seen it already go watch it.
